When you combine the W1GEE LCU-3 transceiver-to-computer interface cabling, along with most CAT software program, you will be able to completely control your transceiver's operations from your computer. Plus these cables get power from the computer's port, so no external battery source is needed. The major radio manufactures have cabling to do this, but you'll spend well over $100 for their cables.

New radios appear on the market constantly. Check the instruction manual if your radio is not listed here. LCU3-I's replace the CT-17; LCU3-K's replace the IF-232C; and the LCU3-Y1 replaces the FIF-232 and CAT-62. LCU Product Information: The LCU-3 transceiver control interface is functionally equivalent to ICOM's CT-17, Kenwood's IF-232C, Yaesu's FIF-232C, & CAT62, TenTec's 305 and the Heath interfaces.
No external power supply is required, all required supply voltages are derived from the serial port itself. This further reduces the risk of RFI pickup by the interface, between the rig and the computer. The LCU-3 requires no special software drivers.
